We are seeking a part time special needs nanny to work with two lovely children aged 3 and 12 months. Molly is 12 months old, she is a very smiley and social toddler who loves attention! Molly has had severe reflux and as a result she has developed aversive feeding difficulties, but she has made a great progress in the last few months. She now enjoys her meal times and eats small amount of pureed food and some finger food. Molly has a older brother, Sam (3 years), who has recently been diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome. Sam is a bright and happy little boy who enjoys singing, arts and crafts and transport toys. He attends nursery 5 afternoon a week. The family are looking for a part time nanny with good experience of working with children with Asperger's syndrome. The nanny will work to support Sam with his social and communications skills. Sam is very good at structured tasks but can sometimes become stuck on an idea or scenario. The nanny will work on developing his imaginative play and the ability to problem solve independently. The person will also encourage Sam to initiate communication, social interaction and will work on his language development.Sam needs clear boundaries, so the nanny will be firm but fair and consistent. In addition the nanny will assist with potty training, provide educational support and carry over what Sam is learning at nursery. Knowledge of the Early Years curriculum is desirable, but most importantly the person needs to have a desire to support children's social communication and promote their independence in a creative way. Experience with toddlers is essential. Some light nursery duties and cooking for the children will be involved. This position is sole charge but mum would like to be able to spend some one to one time with each child a couple of times per week. The position is Monday to Friday 2:30pm until 6.00pm. More hours may be available in holidays. The ideal candidate will be positive, confident and organised as well as have a good knowledge of child development. Above all, the person must be able to engage Sam and Molly through fun and creative play.
