Hi.Im new here, I know i've had symptoms similar to Autism since i was a kid, but i've never been diagnosed, and have avoided doctors visits to discuss this due to complications over the years, I have no problem communicating online, (i can take as long as I want to come up with this message), But have Extreme problems communicating in a social setting and have always avoided such events, I have always tried to just get on with life, have had many different jobs, and have never mentioned this, people just tend to think im a little different and quiet, although there have been one or two people over the years who have put 2 and 2 together and asked me if I had any medical problems that I never stated during interviews, ect. When I was a young teen I was taken into care and took the advice of my social worker of "You Act Different, Just Pretend to be what Society Expects"I have never told anyone about any of the problems i have before, Even my parents.Im now 28 and have had to move back into my mums to care for her on a full time bases as her Unofficial Carer, unfortunately, there is little help out there for carers, I am not entitled to any assistance or benefits to help me care for her, Im kind of worried at the moment as I may have to go to court to argue the case as to why my mum needs a carer, I'm kind of worried about doing this as during a previous period when i cared for her a few years ago, Due to lack of help I broke down and attemped to OD, and I have never mentioned this to anyone so non of my family know, but I will have to confess all of this at court infront of my mum, I don't think anyone can help here, but i don't suppose any of you know how i can get around this, as i've considered not attending court as i don't want to have to tell her about this or any of my other issues.Sorry for the Rant

Hi Michael,Why not try writing a letter to your Doctor, explaining your self just like you have on this forum, he/she may well understand more than you think, hopefully they will pick up on the fears you have, and hopefully will get someone to get in touch with you. its always hard to explain at first face to face with a doctor and our alwys aware that time is precious during an appointment, a letter will give the Doctor time to absorb the imformation and perhaps discuss with his colleques who may have more experience with the issues you have, and they may contact you. i have a son of 24 with autism, and i look at my own obsession and think i have a lot of autistic tendancies, apparently everyone has a certain amount of autism, how many ladies puff up the cusions on their settees, and put them at an angle. My son lives with me, and my life is great where he is concerned, he brings me so much joy, dont under estimate you mum coping with what you may have to tell her. she porbably has an idea already. you need to get your carers allowance, so for your own sake, dont worry what other people think, keep asking for it, and for you mum to be assessed to.
