Hi everyone! We would really like to know your thoughts on our situation,We have a 10 year old son who has shown autistic tendencies since he was around 3 or 4, when he started school we thought we were on our way to getting him the help he needed. We have seen various doctors and consultants over the years who are reluctant to "label" him without the full backing from the school. Our son is very intelligent academically and only struggles with handwriting but finds it very difficult to make friends at school and is very very uncomfortable in all social situations. He has major problems completing homework and the school are not interested whatsoever giving him the support he so badly needs. They have been standing him with his nose to the wall at break for not completing his homework and do not let him have lunchtime play 3 times a week and instead make him do handwriting as soon as he eats his packed lunch. Even after doctors letters telling them he need encouragement to socialise! We kept on at the SENCO, who is also the Head and were finally told by her that he had seen an EP and he was fine and i should stop mollycoddling him. We have asked for the EP report many times and were refused. He has been badly bullied at school and recently has resulted in him sitting in the wardrobe crying, not wanting to go out at all.He has now not been at school since Easter and the Head refuses to see us, just keeps threaatening us with EWO who are actually trying to help us!We asked for a full copy of his file and there was no record of any EP involvement in it! we have since tracked down an EP report which the school removed from his file before they gave it to us and it states he has NEVER been seen by an EP but he was reccomended for further assessment for Aspergers/ASD.The Head also brought in another EP for a meeting with us and he sat there fo 2 hours trying to convince us that we were deluded about our son, even though he didnt even take the time to see him himself, when asked his thoughts after the meeting by an EWO, he denied the meeting with us never happened!Surely this is misconduct? he has no notes or record of our meeting whatsoever! We are astounded that the school have been lying to us and they even witheld the information about him from the doctor and consultant and gave them false information! Evertime the GP refers us to another professional, the school contact them and tell them its all in our heads and there is nothing wrong and our treatment has to stop, even though the EP report recommends assessment and further support. We have now complained formally to the governors and LEA but have not yet had a response, we would really like to know everyones thoughts on this as we dont know where else to turn. Thanks for taking the time to read this and we would really appreciate your thoughts on this!

HiYou need to get hold of The Autism Trust/ The Autism Clinic and speak to Polley or Jonathon Tommey. They may be able to give you advice. The National Autistic Society may also be able to help :). It sounds like your sons school doesnt want to provide additional help ( they are the ones who will need to pay extra support and fund it and it is getting even harder to get a SEN statement now!) The Autism Trust do Autism diagnosis but it is well worth getting in touch as they are not government funded so are private and a charity!Catherine (RNLD)
