Hey y'all!!My name is Chris, proud dad of Ben who is my fantastic 8 year old. We live in Crook of Devon, Kinross. At nursery age, Ben's behaviour became challenging which we managed with some coping techniques which we were guided in by a support professional. This 'bought' us a couple of years but very suddenly at easter last year he became unruly at school, and at home - aged 6. After turning 7 in the summer holidays he returned to school only to be suspended for an alleged assault on a teacher (caught in the cross-fire unfortunately). With iron resolve I made a real pest of myself to the local health services and they pulled out all the stops looking at diet and physical health sicne there was no obvious social changes. With a clean bill of health, we then embarked on a journey with mental health and a diagnosis of sorts eluded to Ben being on the spectrum in January this year - as bad as it sounds, we would sooner have taken a physical diagnosis. You know what I'm saying, this is whats wrong, this is how we treat it, all fixed - versus a far reaching condition for all to live with, for life.Since January Ben has gone from strength to strength with more relaxed and supportive parenting from me and Ben's mum, and from excellent support at school. For the whole of P3, Ben received 1:1 tuition as he could not be around his peers for any length of time. With another year of maturity, now 8 years old, Ben is back in class. He copes well, but being high-functioning he does challenge, tries to control and manipulate, and if there's a blip, its a real biggie. He's a very enthuiastic kid though with a mind for numbers and a real good sense of humour. We have an appointment next week to discuss a more accurate diagnosis, and I look forward to contributing to this forum regularly.CG
