I saw an article in Scientific American a few months back which said that susceptibility to autism is genetic. It didn't cite a reference. My sister-in-law has been told that autism is only passed down the male line of descent, however again we don't have the original reference for this info, and I'm regarding it as doubtful because a penfriend of mine tells me that she definitely knows an instance where AS has been passed from mother to children.
I've had a request printed in the current issue of Asperger United, for any available info on the probability of passing autism on to the next generation. None of my immediate family have AS - other than me of course - but presumably if it is genetic they could all be carriers.Colin
